Kakadu Software is pleased to announce the release of the new Version 7 SDK software. Version 7 is a major upgrade from previous versions of the SDK in both speed and additional functionality.

New functionality includes

• More efficient multi-threading improving performance and scaling with multiple CPU cores

• Inclusion of many new features, including better JPIP support, JP files, metadata browsing and animation

• Improved demonstration executables, with more features, including "kdu_show" which now offers identical functionality on Windows and MAC platforms

Current annual licence holders should now have received an automatic upgrade email for download of V7. The software is also available free for all current non-commercial named user licences for their personal use. Kakadu Software has been implemented by the University of Arizona HiRISE project in their new HiView viewer. The viewer uses the Kakadu Software and JPEG2000 to view detailed images of Mars taken from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

The release of this software viewer shows visibly some of the potential of the JPEG2000 format to benefit research and society. Kakadu Software is working with a number of public projects and organisations to deliver these benefits of JPEG2000 to researchers and the public world wide.
