This release provides three very substantial improvements including a complete overhaul of the Kakadu client/server capabilities for JPIP.

Firstly, the new implementation is platform neutral, compiling equally well on Windows and Unix-based platforms (like Linux and Mac OSX).

 Secondly, the new implementation offers multiple JPIP channels within each session (server side) and exploits multiple JPIP channels whre available (client side).  If multiple channels are not available from the server, the client synthesizes them on behalf of applications, so that multiple concurrent request queues (multiple windows of interest into the same resource) can be offered transparently to client applications. 

Thirdly, the new implementation fixes a number of minor matters in which earlier releases were not completely compliant with the JPIP standard.
